How long does a game of mahjong take?

One hand is often 10–20 minutes. A social set runs 45–90 minutes. Online with bots, a teaching hand is closer to 15 minutes.

Play Mahjong

Animated how-to: win mahjong with four groups and a pair, tap a tile you do not need, throw it away, then take three of a kind or pass.
Watch once — it loops. The words underneath are if you want them.

Hand, set, session

People say “a game of mahjong” for three different things: one deal until someone hus or the wall ends; a set of several hands around the table; or a club afternoon. Scoring charts and table talk stretch the clock more than the meld rules do.

Online teaching table

The Chinese teaching table scores a teaching faan chart on every hu (pattern names in the log). It is still not a Hong Kong club schedule — if you sit at a club, use their sheet. You can stop after one hu. Riichi teaching hands still need a yaku; they are not a full hanchan unless you keep dealing.
